Anyway, the thing is, because they’ve been around for so long and they’re relatively well-known, there are definitely fakes floating around. You see something that looks like a steal of a deal? Red flag, my friend, red flag. Especially if it’s online. I mean, not *everything* cheap is fake, but you gotta be careful.
So, what do you look for? Well, I saw someone mention a 32khz movement versus a 262khz movement. Honestly, if you’re looking at the guts of the watch… that’s a pretty in-depth thing to know and probably not something most people will even bother checking. But if you’re really serious about spotting a fake, that could be a tell. I dunno though, seems like a lot of work.
And that whole David Scott’s watch thing? That’s interesting. The reproduction is supposedly not really like the original. Owned by Citizen now, Bulova is. Makes you think, doesn’t it? About authenticity, and what even *is* “original” anymore, ya know?
Honestly, if you just opened a Bulova you *think* is fake, my advice? Compare it *carefully* to pics of the real deal online. Check the details, the finish, the weight, the way the band feels. Does it seem kinda…cheap? Does the logo look slightly off? Sometimes it’s the little things that give it away.
I kinda feel like… buying from reputable dealers is the best bet. Yeah, you might pay a little more, but at least you’re (probably) getting the real thing. And maybe that peace of mind is worth the extra cash. Just saying.
